Repairs & Service
Repair is a primary concern when importing or purchasing a Chinese high tech device. I have found if you read the small print on most sellers websites it goes like this;
All our products have a global, international or some other term to describe a manufacturers warranty, yes this warranty may be global, but unless stated otherwise YOU THE PURCHASER would be responsible for shipping, organizing and dealing with the manufacturer in China if you require any repair.
From experience don't think the possibility is almost zero that you will at some time during the first year need assistance. I have been importing this type of device for a long time and I am very very careful when purchasing products as I would guess in more than 50% of cases YOU WILL NEED ASSISTANCE AND OR REPAIR.
In other words if you purchase any device in your country without a local warranty, YOU ARE MUCH BETTER OFF purchasing the same product directly from China.
Why pay 2-3 times the price if you get zero support. I am not referring to certain sellers who offer a legitimate local warranty in this situation I RECOMMEND YOU DO PURCHASE LOCALLY you will pay a little extra but trust me when you need a repair you will be very glad you did.
I support small business, I encourage re-sellers, assist them in all areas of importation and marketing, some choose to offer a local warranty but there are many that still charge 2-3 times the distributor price and do not offer a local warranty!
The seller is entitled / expected to increase the price of the product for the convenience of you not having to import it yourself, great but those sellers who charge 2-3 times the purchase price and offer no assistance; I would not even consider purchasing from them.
As an example: *Amounts are factual. (This is a factual example based on the purchase of one mobile phone from a South African seller who does not offer a local warranty)
The amounts have been converted at today's exchange rates from ZAR to USD. - 23 April 2015
- *(two hundred US dollar) the distributor price in China. If you import directly you will pay shipping and duty / tax it will take about 5 days. You will end up paying two hundred and fifty US dollars.
The same product in your country could cost 2-3 times that, if this includes a local warranty FANTASTIC. if you have any problem you have to just take it in for repair...
But with an international warranty besides ALL the hassle, and not being able to speak Chinese, paying double the duty and tax, even if the manufacturer decides to repair your device at no cost. In my experience their usually is some extra cost as explained (This component is not included in the warranty) plus waiting on for the shipment etc.
In most cases it will cost you less to just purchase a new unit directly from the seller in China. This little exercise is not fictional, it is factual.
